Automenu
5.0 versus
4.7
Automenu 5.0 offers several significant enhancements over
Automenu 4.7, while still maintaining upward compatibility with
existing Automenu 4.7 MDFs.
Some of the new features include:
- A new modern "look and feel", allowing up to 62
items per menu page, with an unlimited number of menu
pages per MDF.
- Multiple MDFs may be displayed simultaneously.
- Automatically scans your system and creates menu items
for existing software.
- User definable "hot key" access to any item on
any displayed menu page.
- A global, hidden MDF that makes user definable hot keys
and events available at all times.
- Timed events may be tied to keyboard inactivity as well
as clock time.
- The ability to swap out to XMS/EMS/disk when running in
resident mode. (Typical conventional memory usage is less
than 8KB and can go as low as less than 300 bytes.)
- A new execution monitor TSR that can automatically return
you to Automenu if you forgot to add the AUTO command to
the end of your non-resident items. It can also prevent
access to secondary DOS shells from within an application
as an enhanced security measure.
- User definable extended help for each menu item that can
be many pages in length.
- The screen blanker may be passworded, protecting your
system from unauthorized access when youre away
from your desk.
- Non-standard screen widths and heights are supported.
- User definable backgrounds.
- A log file can record when items are run and exited.
- "Custom" variables allow you to reference many
internal values in your items (e.g. the Automenu
directory, the currently active MDF, the currently active
menu page, the time for the next scheduled event, etc.)
- Releases time-slices when idle in multitasking
environments such as Windows and Desqview, giving more
time to those tasks that need it.
- The ability to emulate the Automenu 4.7 "look and
feel" for those folks who prefer the old way of
doing things.
